The vehicle is equipped with the Manual transmission with a system that has five gears and gives a maximum speed of 50 km per hour. The vehicle can provide a range of close to 150 kilometers per hour. This also helps as that the vehicle comes with a warranty of three years on its battery and a year of warranty on the other components. This is a vehicle priced at 3.1 million rupees and is expected to hit the market very soon.

  • Electric vehicle battery cost is going increase further.

The costs of the Electric vehicle battery have been soaring in the year and that is because of the material and battery component prices increasing.

Price of the Lithium-ion battery pack’s volume-weighted average has reached an amount of $151 per kwh in the year which is an increase of 7% over the year 2021. This is going to mark the first time average increase since the BNEF had begun the tracking of prices in the year 2010 and it delays the price parity of electric vehicle with the internal combustion cars.

This is a figure which represents an average through different end uses of multiple battery including the different kinds of the electric buses, vehicles and the stationary energy storage adding that a specific average for the EV packs was $138 per kwh in the year 2022.

The average prices may have been higher in the year had it not been for the increased adoption of lower cost of lithium chemistry as the alternative for NMC which is used by a lot of manufacturers. On an average, the LFP battery cells had been 20% lesser than the NMC cells.

Though, the overall cost increase has been outpacing the increase in the adoption of LFP chemistry as per BNEF. LFP had also not been immune to the rise in the cost. On the pack basis, the prices had risen by 27% in the year 2022.

The battery price increase has also come despite a lot of announcements due to battery manufacturing which is going to eventually increase the supply but has not begun to impact the market yet.

The BNEF is expecting the battery costs to for dropping once again in the year 2024, when more of the lithium mining and refining capacity is going to be online and it will reduce the prices of the market.

  • General Motors optimistic about the electric vehicle future

Issues and concerns with regard to affordability and charging have held consumers back from converting to the battery electric vehicles. Making this switch between the ICE cars and the tracks to the ones which are battery powered electric vehicles is a huge choice for the customers who are willing to cling on to the convenience and familiarity of going to a fuel station for refueling. General Motors doesn’t think this is a phenomenon which will last for too long.

However in a session with the reporters this Thursday during a meeting, the Chairperson of General Motors Mary Barra said that she is not going to agree with the concept that the drivers are going to resist giving up the fueling for a recharge of the battery. She said that maybe a small fraction may be doing so but there will be a lot of forces which are going to encourage people to take up the electric vehicles.

The reasons according to her are the fact that the cars are a great fun to drive and says out of her personal experience that not going to a gas station can become really addictive very quickly. The challenge is going to not be mainstream for very long.

As of now, there are not many who are holding out. The sales of the electric vehicles thus far are not great but she does expect it to pick up soon. The third quarter however showed that the sale numbers of the electric vehicle were just 5% of what the total vehicle sales were in the United States.

The trend is however picking up as the number of dealerships have considerably increased in the last few years. That is a great sign for the company and the overall economy of electric vehicles as the world gradually adopts to it.

While the existing plants which are owned by three US automakers are maintaining a presence of a union. They have been shifting production to the electric vehicles and the union needs to start from the very beginning like the one in Ohio through which Ford is going to build the factories. The other companies such as Lucid, Rivian and Tesla aren’t Unionized.

The union of autoworkers has been worried for long about the transition to the electric vehicles first through the research paper that the EV requires close to 30% less of workforce to produce when compared to the ICE. This has also pointed out that the US is falling far behind than EU and Asia in the supply chains which are helping the other countries maintain its workforce continuously. Biden must gear up for this test.

  • ZS EV’s smaller version from MG motors to debut in India soon

The upcoming ZS EV from MG motors is going to probably debut in India. Before, the launch, the automaker as of now is testing the electric vehicle it has. This is a much smaller version of the ZS electric which is an SUV. This has been recently seen on the roads of Gujrat where they were testing. This is an upcoming electric car which is aimed at the customers who are looking for an affordable and small EV in India.

The test vehicle of the ZS EV is going to be a three door model. The EV will expectedly be coming with a light bar that is going to stretch to the entire width of a rear section which connects with its tail lights. There is also speculation that it is going to come with the rectangular fog lamps as well as the bumpers that are body-coloured.

As per a leaked image, this car may be a rebadged version of the Wuling Air electric vehicle. This is going to be the smallest car on the roads in India.

The ZS EV in all likelihood is going to have a range of 200 to 300 kilometers on one charge.

At the same time, the MG Motor India has also initiated a huge overhaul in the top leadership as it signals an intent for this market to have a long term commitment as there is a huge scrutiny of the FDI which comes from China. MG is among the only Chinese manufacturers which have set a facility up in India after the debut with the SUV MG Hector in the year 2019.

The affordable segment could be one which the market needs the most as it would then go on to grow its volumes and reach out to a huge middle class segment.

  • BMW electric cars may benefit from bumpy roads.

A patent from the car manufacturer BMW has revealed that poor roads or roads which have bumps maybe helpful to the power cars. It has been revealed that BMW electric cars is looking to capitalize on infrastructure that has poor roads.

A document which has been unearthed form the national patent office in Germany has revealed that a new suspension device is going to allow the generation of electricity from the bumps on a road.

This patent which has since been verified shows that a new way for charging of batteries can be done from the bumpy roads. When you get bumps, you can get more charging on the vehicle.

It can be ascertained then that if the roads are bumpy, the cars would then have a longer workaround charging time for the electric vehicle.

As per this document, the energy that gets generated from the movement of up and down of the suspension of a car gets wasted in the form of heat energy. This proposed setup is going to include a flywheel, generator and a clutch in suspension for capturing the energy during this process.

It is apparent that generator of the car gets ticked off when the wheel of the car moves upwards due to a bump. The energy which results then gets used for recharging the battery of the electric vehicle.

There are claims that BMW may be using this as a system in future on their flagship models. It is important for noting here that the patents are not always going to become products. Sometimes, these are just ideas which never find its way into the car.

BMW had filed for this patent but the suggestion has been there for this technology for a while. Audi has also been talking about the technology for a while.

  • Chinese electric vehicles are offering a challenge to Europe

The Chinese electric vehicles are now making their way into Europe and are aiming to win the sales volume from manufacturers such as Volkswagen which are looking to sell higher volumes of vehicle. But Mercedes, BMW and Audi cannot afford to get complacent as the companies will be coming for the upmarket manufacturers too.

The premium markets however are going to be a lot more difficult to target as it is going to be difficult to compete with the status symbols which Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Porsche have become over the years and the nameplates BYD, Aiways, Xpeng or NIO may not have the same impact.

It has been said that the share of the Chinese manufacturers of the battery electric vehicles in Europe may rise to about 15% by the year 2025 from 5% that it is right now. The big carmakers of Europe are currently hamstrung by the EU CO2 regulations which are in favor of the bigger, expansive and higher profit market electric cars and therefore seem unable to compete with the mid-price challenge and are even less inclined to contemplate a rise of the cheaper electric runabout.

It is difficult to believe that the EU policy which is going to hollow the industry out and cause many job losses will be going unchallenged.

The market is vulnerable and the brands have been notching up impressive sales which are based on the high-standard equipment levels and have prices which are below the competitive companies.

Chinese electric vehicles are going to go unopposed from the European electric vehicles. The earlier hurdles such as quality which were being faced by the ICE versions of the Chinese electric vehicles will not be faced by the electric vehicles as they have a superior quality in the recent past due to better manufacturing.

General Motors is going ahead with its plans which include the installation of 40,000 EV chargers. Most of which is going to take place in the rural parts in America. This is going to come as the plans of GM including selling exclusively for the zero-emission passenger vehicles by the year 2035. These will be going in the locations where the EV drivers may be able to leave their vehicles parked for a couple of hours like the sport venues, parks or the downtown shopping districts. These are chargers which are going to have the industry-standard plugs which might be used by most of the electric vehicles and not only the likes of GM and Tesla.

As of now there are 43,000 such charging stations in America. If all the units get installed, they would be able to double their number of stations.

For now, 1,000 dealers of GM have come on board for the installation of 10 chargers per its dealership. Many of the GM dealership owners are the independent business owners and own over one dealership. The chargers are not going to be installed at the dealerships though but through the local area where the dealerships are based.
