  • Battery electric vehicles vs hybrid electric vehicles debate.

    The debate between Battery electric vehicles vs hybrid electric vehicles is going to rage on. European Union has made a decision that 2035 is going to be the final year when the ICE or internal combustion engines will be banned for sale and al the new vehicles will then be electric vehicles as automotive industry is going to play its part in the battle of being carbon neutral by 2050.

    This is among the big upheavals. It makes an assumption of over 100 years of development and investment which may be replaced with technology that is yet to be proven in the actual world. There is one aspect of this plan which is guaranteed. The politicians who have been pushing this plan will not be in power by 2035. If it is a plan which does not work out, there will be no one to answer any critics. The other aspects are a little less certain because, the politicians have made an agreement of the fact that battery electric vehicles will be victorious at the end of the day.

    A few of the leaders are saying that selecting the technology which is not proven so far is like wasting 100 years of the development and assumes the battery-electric will be as capable. They say that there is still a lot of improvement which is gained from the refining of cleaner power with the help of the hybrids and with that the CO2 emissions may be also slashed.

    Others are of the opinion that in order to go for the net zero carbon emissions, the BEV are completely carbon neutral and that isn’t the case. A few estimates reckon that it is going to take 16,000 miles of use of the battery electric vehicles for matching the CO2 emissions of the ICE vehicles.

  • Mahindra and Mahindra looking at an investment of 10,000 crore

    Mahindra and Mahindra which is an automaker from India has said today that it is going to invest Rs. 10,000 crore for setting up a manufacturing plant for electric vehicles in Pune as a part of its push for the EV space in the country. The investment plant has been approved under the Maharashtra Government and its industrial promotion scheme for the electric vehicles.

    Mahindra is known for the sports utility vehicles it makes along with jeeps has now said that it is going to now manufacture its Born Electric Vehicles range which includes the Electric Vehicle variant of the popular XUV 700 in its new plant.

    Through its subsidiary, Mahindra is going to make investments of close to Rs 10,000 crore in the period of 7-8 years for setting the manufacturing facility up, development and production of the BEVs of Mahindra and a few others which had been showcased in UK in the month of August in the year.

    Rajesh Jejurikar who is the executive director of the company said that they are delighted with the approval which has come from the Maharashtra Government for setting the EV manufacturing plant up in Pune and investing in what they call their home state for over 7 decades.

    As of now, India does not have a huge sale of electric vehicles with Electric vehicles only making about 1% of the total sales of cars of close to 3 million however government wants to help in the growth of this by 30% by the year 2030.

    Currently Pune is home to a few of the top manufacturers of the country which includes Hero MotoCorp , Bajaj Auto Ltd and the Indian Mercedes- Benz and Volkswagen unit.

    The company is currently in talks with many investors who they think will invest in the companies going forward.

  • University of Houston students to compete in an electric vehicle design competition.

    The students of University of Houston have been competing for design of the next generation of the luxury electric vehicles as the part of their coursework. The co-directors of the Industrial design program have offered the students an opportunity to enroll in the design competition while they still gain the class credits. Seniors who had designed the exterior of the vehicles had paired up with juniors who had created interiors to form as many as eight teams.

    A professor in the university said that through the programs, the students in the past have been designing other mode of transportations such as electric scooters and bicycles but they have never tried their hand at a car. The timing they think is amazing because the industry of electric vehicle is now moving to Texas. This offers them an opportunity for positioning their design program and being ready for this industry.

    The creativity of the students along with their innovation is going to be on display in an exhibition which is going to open on 2nd of December at the Mashburn Gallery in the Hines college. Winners will also be announced there.

    This is a competition which has been made possible through the sponsors TexPower EV, Photon Auto and IQP. The Photon Auto which is based in Houston is going to develop a new vehicle which has a range of close to 500+ miles and has lidar systems as an equipment which sends the pulses of laser light for determining the presence of the shape as well as distance of the objects and helps in crash prevention.

    This competition is going to encourage innovation and is going to help in the growth of the market as a whole along with the innovation and should be encouraged all over the world particularly in countries like India.

  • Krishan Pal Gurjar reveals steps about adoption of electric mobility

    Krishan Pal Gurjar who is the Union Minister for the Heavy Industries has reveled that the steps are being taken from the government towards addressing many challenges faced for the adoption of the electric vehicle acceptance.

    The minister in a reply in the Lok Sabha said that close to 7.5 lakh electric vehicles have been helped till the month of December 2022 through the demand incentive which amounts to close to 3200 crores. This has been done as per the Phase-II of the FAME India Scheme. Further, the MHI has also sanctioned 6315 e-busses to the 65 cities/State governments/STUs and other entities of governments. This has been done for the fast adoption and the manufacturing of the electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles in the country.

    There has been an allocation of 10000 crore for the next phase which is going to offer the support on both the shared and public transportation along with electrification. There are incentives which are provided to the buyers of the electric vehicles in the form of the upfront reduction in purchase prices

    He further mentioned the steps which have been taken from the government for addressing the challenges faced in the adoption of the electric vehicles in the country. Different policies have helped in making the electric vehicles at cost with the par with the ICE two-wheelers.

    The country has been in need for the reforms as there are different parts of this country are going through serious problems such as air pollution and population explosion. This is going to need to be controlled otherwise it would affect the health of the population in the market. The growth of the electric vehicles in the market will need a few more campaigns along with the awareness drives. Subsidies too will play a key role in the growth of the electric vehicles.

    Electric vehicle battery recycling is an industry which has been booming off late and is a key factor about lowering the carbon footprint of the electric vehicles but close to half of the Americans are currently of the belief that the EV batteries are meant to be discarded after use. A study which has been carried out has revealed that close to 47% of the Americans think that the EV batteries are not recyclable. Over one-third of the people think that the Americans do not understand that the recycled batteries for the making newer electric vehicle batteries. Only a few of the Americans have an understanding that the critical materials in this can be recycled over without the loss of the performance. This is a major blow to the market which prides itself on the recyclability of the product.

    There are many myths which are prevailing for the electric vehicles which are stopping the growth of the market. The market experts are of the opinion that the myths and misconceptions about the electric vehicles and in particular about the recycling of electric vehicles has been hampering the industry. They feel that while the industry has been making great progress in terms of efficiency and the cost-effectiveness of the recycling of lithium-ion battery but these are only false narratives about the Electric vehicles which continue to go on. They are changing this by creation of an infrastructure which is going to make it unthinkable for letting the battery to go to dust as they are way too valuable.

  • Cheap Chinese imports dent India focused electric vehicle policy

    The cheap imports which come from China are undermining the industry of Electric vehicle in India. Even with subsidies that come from government under the FAME II guideline that stipulate the 90% Indian made vehicles where Chinese imports are much cheaper which is a blow to the Electric vehicle policy of India. This had been stated by the companies which participated in the Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan.

    Ngage Impex Private LTD which is an Electric Vehicle maker from Howrah that sells the electric two-wheeler under the brand name Ronflant, assembles the vehicles in the plant at Jalan complex with the components which imported from China.

    The general manger Swarup Kundu said that they import everything from the batteries to tyres from China. It is a lot cheaper that way. China has been achieving a huge economies of scale and it can price its products a lot more competitively than the Indian products. To make the manufacturing profitable in India, there is a production which is at least the current capacity’s five times. As it has imported, it has been able to keep the price of the components down and keep it around 55000 to 95000. Localization is going to push the costs up.

    EV maker Go which is based in Singur said that its operation began last year and it has been offering in the brand name of Goeen and it has also assembled the scooters with the components from China as per the business heads.

    The electric scooters Chalo have been offered with the lead acid battery of the 48 volts/28AH that has a range of close to 60km and Chalo v2 that has a range of 70km

    So this calls for a great reflection on the Electric vehicle policy of India where they need to introspect about imports.

  • Tesla is coming to Thailand to compete with BYD

    Tesla has now launched the sales of its car sales in Thailand as it has been offering its popular cars Model Y and Model 3 at the prices which are aimed to compete with the rivals such as BYD from China.

    The company has been staging a glitzy showcase of the plans it has and this Wednesday was a huge showcase in the Siam Paragon Mall in Bangkok. The online purchases have started with the plans of delivering the vehicles to buyers in next year’s first quarter.

    The market of Southeast Asia has a population of over 600 million people and the focus is growing increasingly on the automakers who are now looking at expanding their sales of the electric vehicles. 

    Tesla has said that the vehicles are going to have the latest systems of navigation and a few other features like the software updates over the air.

    This company is selling its Performance and Model 3 Long Range models. The Model Y is going to be sold in three different versions for meeting specific demands of Electric vehicle lifestyle for each Thai driver.

    As per the local feedback, the price which is set at $50,000-71,000 is lower than what the people were expecting. There are very less after sales concerns too. They are not worried about that as the parts are not at all complicated in comparison to the combustible cars.

    There are many countries which are looking to launch their cars so there are better choices and that is going to be great for the consumers as per them. Tesla has said that it is going to start its first supercharger station and service station.

    Tesla said that it is going to open its first service center and supercharger station in Thailand by the month of March and is going to plan to have close to 10 set up in Thailand in the year 2023.

  • Car Manufacturers dropping AM radio due to electromagnetic interferences.

    Car manufacturers say that the electromagnetic interferences cause static and noise on the AM transmissions which annoy the customers. The broadcasters have said that they may lose a connection to the core listeners who are reliant on radio for the emergencies. For close to a century, the drivers are used to listening AM radio for the updates with traffic, sports, weather, news and a variety of other programs

    However, this is a dashboard regular which may be on its way out as the electric vehicles will start grabbing more of the marketplace in America.

    An increase in the number of electric models which are dropping the AM radio option could be a worrying sign for the broadcasters as a whole and deprive the drivers of a crucial news source in case of emergencies.

    The car makers have said that the electric vehicles generate a lot more electromagnetic interference than the fuel-powered vehicles which may disrupt the AM signal disruption and cause the noise, static and a high -frequency humming sound.

    Instead of frustrating customers with the inferior reception and the noise, the decision had been made for leaving it off the vehicles which feature the eDrive technologies.

    Tesla, Porsche, Audi and Volvo are a few more companies which have removed the AM radio from the electric vehicle and Volkswagen has also removed it from its SUV. Due to the same reception problems, Ford and Audi has said that it will also be dropping its AM radio from the electric pickup truck.

    A few experts have said that the problems related to the reception are not something they cannot overcome. The electromagnetic interferences may be controlled with the shielding cables, careful placement and filters in the electrical components in a vehicle.  The technology owners are going to have to find a solution for this.

  • Electric vehicle Charging not going to affect the grid supply or systems.

    An increase in the electric vehicle sales maybe lead to the electric vehicle cost being lowered for every customer. Electric vehicle charging has been a topic of discussion in the recent past. As per a study, it was shown that the Electric Vehicle users do not receive subsidies from the customers and that in actuality is going to drive the price down.

    Overall, the Electric vehicle consumers have been providing over $1.87 billion in terms of net revenue to the customers’ utility between the year 2012 and the year 2021 in three of the utility services which are based in the United States.

    For avoiding the effects of the climate change and the protection of public health, the transportation sector needs to be completely restructured. The transport sector has been among the largest sources of the world of global warming pollution and a big source of the harmful local pollution in the air. To put it simply, there is a need for a broader adoption of the electric vehicles like trucks, buses and cars etc. which get powered by the electricity. This is a grid which is already clean enough that the Electric Vehicles cut the emissions at an enormous level but it is increasingly based on the sources which are emission-free like solar and wind.

    There is a common misconception that the Electric vehicle charging is going to strain the system of electricity and need require any expensive upgrades which might raise the prices of electricity. However, the opposite is visible in the world as per studies where electricity is able to charge when people are sleep and there is a lot of electricity still present when the electricity is used. So electric vehicle charging infrastructure has not been hampering the electric vehicle system in any form at all and the common misconception should be done away with for the use of electricity.

The KIA EV6 was sold as CBU and it is the first ever car that MS Dhoni has brought for his garage. The cricket has many cars and bikes that he has bought for himself. Many of them are vintage cars.

    Popular actress and dance Icon of the country Madhuri Dixit has also taken the first electric car delivery early in the year. She along with her husband Dr. Shriram Nene bought the Tata Nexon EV. Nexon EV is among the best selling electric vehicles in the country.

    Famous actor from the Telegu industry, Mahesh Babu has also recently bought the first electric car. He owns an Audi e-tron. This is a powerful SUV which has a driving range of around 484 km.

    This is going to give a major boost to the manufacturers of the electric vehicles and encourage the fans of these celebrities to take up electric vehicles.
